Rosanne Hawke Book Launch
posted by Kylie Leane on April 29, 2017

Last night I was extremely honoured to be part of a book launch for Rosanne Hawke's two books 'Wolfchild' and 'Across the Creek' being republished by Stone Table Books.

It was a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a panel with Rosanne and two other illustrators, D.M Cornish (whom I'm sure many know as the author an illustrator of the Monster Blood Tattoo books -- he illustrated the front cover for Wolfchild), and also Emily Bensted who did the beautiful interior illustrations for Wolfchild. Seriously, you need to see them, they're stunning!! She is so talented.

Front Covers and Book Launches
posted by Kylie Leane on April 2, 2017

So recently I had the great honour of working with the emerging company Stone Table Books on a front cover for the incredibly talented, and beautiful Rosanne Hawke.
I love illustrating, it is what I hope to make a career out of to supplement my writing.
I've had years of not being able to draw well though, due to my health.

Book Launch of Jonah and the Clockwork Goblin by Matthew Edwards
posted by Kylie Leane on March 10, 2017

Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to go to a book launch of an old university friend's first novel, published by Stone Table Books, Jonah & the Clockwork Goblin by Matthew Edwards.

It is always exciting to see a new book come to life. Knowing the background work, the ins-and-outs of what goes into making a book...well...a book, just makes a Book Launch feel all the more rewarding to attend.

I took an Uber to get to the book launch, my first time actually, and chatted to my driver as we headed down into the city. He was immensely curious about what I did, having never met anyone who worked as an illustrator and so, I gladly told him about the fascinating world of illustrating.

He sat there for awhile, pondering, before saying, "I never thought about it before, that someone actually has to make a front cover of a book, I always just glossed over them. I don't think I can even recall any front cover from any book I have ever read."

I laughed and replied. "Well, there is a whole industry built around just front covers."

I was going to post photos of the evening here, but none of them turned out. My phone camera has decided to die on me and just be utterly awful.
So, I suggest heading to Matthew Edwards Facebook Page as I am sure they'll have photos of the event up at some point.

I'll leave you with the blurb from the back of Jonah and the Clockwork Goblin.

Jonah is a fifteen-year-old orphan who thinks he already has enough problems in his life. He’s failing all his subjects at school, frequently tormented by the school bully, and can count the people who care about his life (including his cat) on one hand—with fingers to spare. When he faces losing his older brother, he’s convinced things couldn’t get worse. Then he is awoken in the middle of the night by a clockwork cyborg goblin who robs him of a cherished opal pendant and departs through a magical portal. In his pursuit of the goblin thief, Jonah finds himself cast into a world beneath his own where he must pick his friends wisely, grow up quickly, and choose between an eight-foot evil seductress queen and a thousand-year-old tree nymph if he is to survive —and save the world in the process.
