The Tangled Plot
posted by Kylie Leane on January 19, 2017

I find it funny that my first post of 2017 is going to be about entirely scarping most of the work I did on Book 3 in 2016.

Every time I plan a novel, I always start off with a little one page brief 'overview' (or mock synopsis) that is supposed to keep me in check while writing the far larger plan.
However, every SINGLE time I plan a novel, I deviate away from that overview...and...every single time I've ended up going back and rewriting the novel according to the original overview.

Looking Backwards, Stumbling Forwards

Small Beginnings

I don't like to complain about my chronic pain, at least, I really, really hope I don't complain to much about it. Lately though, this past month, it is as though someone turned a dial up a few notches. The pain and the fatigue has just been utterly exhausting. During these times, it is very hard to keep my eyes focused firmly on the goal at the end of the tunnel -- wherever and whenever that end may be. So, sometimes when I get stuck in this sort of hole I find it good to look backward as I try to stumble forward.

Supporting Characters/Cast aren't Useless Lamps

This past weekend I saw the movie ‘Arrival’ – I cannot stress enough how beautiful, inspiring and visually stunning this movie was and I highly recommend going to see it, even now, I am still finding myself thinking about the contents of the movie.
I won’t talk much about it, because it is a movie that very much needs to be experienced without spoilers for the full impact to be felt.
However, I watch a lot of youtube reviewers and a couple of them have mentioned something that got me thinking about a topic that pops up in my thoughts from time to time: Supporting/Secondary Characters in Books (or movies).

1,000 Words Friday!
posted by Kylie Leane on September 30, 2016

Hey everyone! How are you all keeping? Well I hope.
If you live in Adelaide or South Australia I really hope you have survived the last few days and our crazy weather, the Blackout that I am sure our State won't forgot for a long time, and all this wind, rain and...well...more wind, and more rain.

Today I am wanting to start a little new project of mine called "1,000 Words Friday" -- a little idea I had to share some of my current projects and snippets from past projects. I simply share 1,000 words, on a Friday, from writing project with you all.

For this Friday, the 30th of September 2016, I thought -- to celebrate to release of Protectors: Book Two of Chronicles of the Children, I'd share one of my favorite scenes from Protectors. This scene is from Chapter Forty-Two - so *almost* toward to end of the book. Sami and Skye make a bit of a discovery...

Protector's Manuscript Finished
posted by Kylie Leane on April 26, 2016

So it has been a really, really long journey editing Book 2: Protectors, but what an adventure it has been.
My amazing editor, Elle, took what was a quite a rough-diamond and shined it up into a state I am proud of. I was very worried about the ending, but now, I'm not and that is a huge relief to me.
It's a big book.
Here is some amazing details for you to digest:

Author Talk at Emmaus Christian College

So today I had the great honor of returning to my old school, which back in my day was actually called Bethesda, but today is Emmaus. Things had changed quite a lot! It was very overwhelming at first, but it was lovely to see that the old tree I used to sit and writer under still remained.
I was a guest for the Middle School Assembly and was able to speak about how Emmaus was vital in helping me become the writer I am today. I truly hope I was able to inspire some of the young people there.

Writing was never my gift, having to teach myself how to write - imagination was and is my gift.
Everything else sort of had to come along after that, after the love of adventure, after the love of making spaceships out of cardboard boxes and slaying space-dragons, I had to learn the art of writing - it isn't something that come naturally.

Perseverance, I believe, plays a great part in our lives.
Even at a young age, managing to get through school when perhaps we're struggling at it, we learn perseverance. That it is possible to keep trying, to make it through, and to come out the other side of the dark tunnel into the light.

Hopefully I will be able to have more chances to share with wonderful young people in the future.
I was very grateful for the chance to do so today.
Thank you very much to the Middle School of Emmaus Christian College!
